Besides the concept of cardio, supplements are one of the most misunderstood and undervalued aspects to optimal health & performance. If used appropriately, a supplement can be a major factor in dietary health improvement. Take a look at my favorite brands and see which may be best for you.

Are Supplements For Me?

Good question. Before we explore my favorites list, let’s break down the idea behind health supplements.

Apple’s Dictionary:

Supplement (noun) |ˈsəpləmənt| Something that completes or enhances something else when added to it.

Supplements have immense value when used to bridge a nutritional deficiency, increase a physical performance, or aid in biological function. To clarify, a supplement is not a food replacement. It shouldn’t be used instead of, but rather in addition to your normal dietary regime.

A supplement may be best for someone whom falls short of consuming the optimal amount of nutrients needed for good health.  A supplement may also be used as an insurance to enhance metabolic function.

Is a supplement right for you?

It depends.

You may “eat healthy”, but prefer not to eat fish. In that case, a fish oil supplement would provide you with a healthy dose of inflammation-reducing Omega-3 fats.

You might be a vegetarian and need to increase your protein intake, by which a powdered supplement would boost your intake.

You could be a picky eater and fall well below the recommend amount of fruits and vegetables, so a multi-vitamin or greens powdered supplement would clear up some vitamin deficiencies.

Each person has their own unique characteristics, lifestyle, dietary habits, and exercise regime, so consider what may be missing or necessary when choosing a supplement.
